Teaching and Learning

  • Plan appropriate, effective, differentiated, and inclusive learning programmes through schemes of work that promote equality and engage with diversity
  • Plan teaching sessions using learning outcomes found in modules’ specifications and accommodate individualised learning using a variety of resources and methods including digital learning techniques
  • Ensure all learning materials are updated and available on the VLE for students to access and engage with
  • Apply the principles of learning to provide learning activities to meet curriculum requirements and the needs of all students


  • Apply the theories and principles of assessment including initial, diagnostic, timely formative and summative assessment
  • Use a variety of consistent methods to check learning in lessons and periodically track and record students’ progress  
  • Provide regular and timely constructive feedback to students to enable them to improve and achieve their qualifications
  • Prepare students for summative assessment e.g. exams, coursework, assignments, practical and/ or other required assessments methods 
  • Engage in the timely preparation of assessment materials including the creation, marking, moderation and the entry of marks in the appropriate platforms.

Progress Support

  • Respond promptly and appropriately to lapses in student attendance, punctuality, behaviour and needed application to their future studies, referrals to progress coaches or senior management as necessary.
  • Support students with action planning to improve academic performance and achieve aspirational targets.
  • Support students to progress to the University by being proactive in liaising with University Schools and network link tutors.

Learning and Welfare Support

  • Act as progress coach and carry out duties associated with this role
  • Refer students for learning support where appropriate
  • Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the well-being of students in your care.

Personal Learning and Development

  • Be aware of and comply with all Centre quality assurance processes such as observation of teaching and learning, audits of teaching and learning material, including VLE contents, programme and module evaluation and subject team performance reviews
  • Convey enthusiasm for the personal specialist area to staff and students
  • Engage in professional development to improve teaching and learning practice, and update subject specialist knowledge
  • Undertake reflection and self-evaluation of personal teaching practice and continuing professional development

Team working

  • Work as part of the Engineering, Science and Computing Team to produce and develop an exciting curriculum for students
  • Prepare for and participate in appropriate Centre events e.g. induction activity, Progression, enrichment, University school events, award ceremonies, surveys and other activities
  • Promote a cohesive work ethic within the ESC Department, the Centre and the ISC network


  • Successful teaching, learning and assessment experience at level 3
  • Thorough STEM subjects’ knowledge mainly Maths and Engineering
  • Successful teaching, learning and assessment experience at level 4
  • Experience in teaching International Students
  • Experience in supporting students in a pastoral role
  • Experience in developing learning and teaching through digital learning platforms.
  • The ability to form and maintain effective relationships with students and colleagues
  • Ability to contribute to the design, development and evaluation of curriculum, resources and all assessment methods
  • Committed to promoting excellence and continuous improvement in teaching and learning
  • Enthusiastic and committed to undertaking continuing professional development CPD
  • The vision, drive and enthusiasm to achieve targets
  • Self-reliant, self -motivated and able to show initiative
  • Sound administrative, I.T. and organisation skills
