An exciting opportunity has become available for a master’s level candidate to contribute to improving inventory decisions at Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc (JLR). This post has been created through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Lancaster University and offers a 24-month fixed term contract, with a £4,000 dedicated training budget tailored towards your personal development.
JLR, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, is a worldwide leader in manufacturing luxury sports and sports utility vehicles. This KTP sits within the Inventory Management Team responsible for ensuring inventory is in the right place at the right time within the JLR global warehouse network. To research Jaguar Land Rover, see JLR.
You will lead a project which aims to design, test and implement innovative models to forecast demand for service parts at JLR, and to improve inventory decision making for long-term purchases, thereby reducing economic and environmental waste.
You will be employed by Lancaster University, but based at JLR’s premises in Coventry. You will work closely with and be supported by the senior management team at JLR and academics from the Department of Management Science. Management Science has one of the largest Analytics and Operational Research groups in the country, with an outstanding research record. With a worldwide reputation as a centre of excellence, the department is distinguished for helping organisations solve real problems.
Ideally, you will be a master's graduate in a subject such as mathematics, statistics, business analytics or data science, although consideration will be given to a bachelor's (minimum 2:1) plus significant relevant work experience. Programming skills will be essential, as demonstrated by your previous study or work experience; knowledge of Python and SQL are highly desirable. You must be able to take ownership of the project, formulating a clear plan, and making necessary adjustments as the project unfolds. You will need to be able to work collaboratively and communicate with colleagues at all levels of JLR. Previous project experience is desirable, especially of projects involving information systems.
In addition to a competitive salary, the reward package includes an additional £4,000 for your personal development, with time allocated for you to pursue training and learning activities, offering excellent opportunities to further your professional development and support your career progression. You will have the opportunity to register for a MRes by Research Innovation at Lancaster. You will be encouraged to prepare research publications based upon the results of the project where commercially appropriate.
