About the role
Geography is a successful and key subject at Bath Spa University. Taught courses include: BSc Hons Geography, including pathways in Human Geography and Physical Geography; and, BSc Hons Global Development and Sustainability. We also contribute to the BSc Hons in Environmental Science and the MA in Environmental Humanities.
We want to provide additional teaching and marking cover (on a variable hours basis) across the subject, at the undergraduate level. Our specific requirements for the remainder of the academic year in geography comprise elements of both our physical geography and human geography provision, in both classroom and field settings. We seek specialists from both strands of the discipline, and/ or those that bridge both physical and human geography (https://www.bathspa.ac.uk/courses/ug-geography/).
About you (requirements)
You will have a good first degree in geography (or allied discipline) and ideally hold a higher degree in Geography. You will have existing experience of different teaching methods and/or experience of university level teaching and marking, including both in person and via virtual learning environments. You should have excellent communication and time management skills, and an ability to work both as a member of a small team and independently. Your focus will be student-centred teaching in this post.
Bath Spa University is focused on creative enterprise and guided by our four values of respect, inclusivity, collaboration and sustainability. We teach around 8,000 students on a set of campuses around Bath, with most being located at Newton Park, including a listed Georgian house and grounds, or Locksbrook Road, our new city-centre art and design campus. Our research centres focus on creative industries and humanities.
Research in geography (https://www.bathspa.ac.uk/research-and-enterprise/our-research-excellence/geography-and-environment-research/) is principally aligned to our vibrant and internationally facing: Research Centre in Environmental Humanities (RCEH); Hazard, Risk and Disaster Research Group (HRD); and the Global Citizenship and Identities’ Research Group (GCI) . Our research was submitted to REF2021.
Our purpose is to challenge our students and staff to realise their talent and thrive, for their own benefit and for the wider good. By doing this we will think and make the world better.
