The position is for 15 months and is funded by the Leverhulme Trust to develop approaches for analysing genotype-phenotype relationships among Bordetella pertussis. This position is largely bioinformatics-based.
You will have experience of bioinformatics analyses of bacterial genome sequence information, and preferably experience of characterising bacterial genome structural variants. You will have proficiency in the use of pipelines for genome sequence analysis, genome assembly, characterisation of variation among large genome sequence data sets. You will have proficiency in computer programming. Prior experience of bacterial GWAS is particularly welcomed.
The position requires working with a research technician who will lead the laboratory aspect of the project, and other group members working on distinct but related projects. You will receive supervision and guidance from Prof. Preston and Dr Cowley but will demonstrate the ability to develop the project with a degree of independence.

The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry and part of a growing and dynamic Infection and Immunity group that provides substantial support and interactions. The department incorporates research groups from a wide range of disciplines, offering opportunities for multidisciplinary interactions. The department is home to an active post-doc group, providing liaison with management, support and social opportunities. In addition, the successful applicant will be a member of the Milner Centre for Evolution, a recent £10m investment into cross-faculty biology and health research at Bath with a strength in science education and outreach. The Milner Centre is home to world-leading expertise in microbial genomics, providing excellent networking with, and support from, other bioinformaticians.
