JOB OVERVIEW 

Durham University International Study Centre is the first step to gaining a degree from a world-leading university that is one of the oldest in the UK.

The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective modules at International Foundation Year (Pre-Undergraduate, level 3), in the Centre and via online teaching. We are looking for candidates with a range of experience in one or more of following subject areas, Sociology, History, English Literature & Extended Project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Durham University International Study Centre programmes cover the following subject areas:

Foundation: Humanities, Law and Social Sciences

Pre-Masters: Law and Social Science

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering modules (online and face-to-face) to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the development of modules.
  • Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
  • Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre’s virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
  • Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process.
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance.
  • Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students.
  • Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
  • Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
  • Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
  • Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to subject.

EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's degree within a relevant subject (essential)
  • A Master's degree with in a relevant subject (essential)
  • Teaching experience delivering Humanities and/or Social Science programmes within a Sixth Form, Further Education or Higher Education context (essential)
  • Experience of working with international students (desirable)
  • Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc)
  • Confident practitioner online (e.g. use of Teams/Zoom) and face to face
  • Able to master a wide range of online teaching software
