The Department of Computer Science is a research-intensive department made up of over 70 academics delivering on-campus programmes to more than 800 students and online courses to over 1500 students. Our vision is to is to be internationally leading on education and research into engineering safe, ethical and secure computational systems

We are seeking one fixed-term lecturer to support the development and delivery of our specialist MSc programme in Cyber Security. We are therefore seeking an excellent teacher who would support and strengthen our existing teaching team through their knowledge of this specialist domain and their skills as an educator.


Main purpose of the role:

  • To lecture, lead seminars, tutorials and other forms of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • To develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students
  • To carry out on-going curriculum review, including teaching content and materials and contribute to the development of teaching and learning strategies
  • To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities   

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Postgraduate degree in Computer Science or cognate discipline ideally a doctorate
  • Sound knowledge of either CyberSecurity
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching techniques to enthuse and engage students, leading to positive educational outcomes
  • Ability to design, deliver, and assess topics at all levels in Cyber Security
  • Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
  • Ability to supervise the work of others, for example as an MSc supervisor
  • Contribution to successful planning, design and delivery of teaching, with exemplification of teaching materials
  • Show attention to detail and commitment to high quality
  • Positive attitude to colleagues and students
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own work in order to meet deadlines
  • Commitment to personal development and updating of knowledge and skills
  • Willingness to engage in the affairs of the department/university outside of their chosen field, for example undertaking management and administration duties
