This is an exciting opportunity to join UCL as a Lecturer in Cellular Biochemistry. The appointment will be based in the Research Department of Structural and Molecular Biology (SMB) within the Division of Biosciences which is one of UCL’s largest academic Divisions, and a world leading centre for research and teaching in the biological sciences. The new lecturer will be expected to build an innovative and collaborative research programme in synergy with other members of the Department, producing high quality publications, and attracting external funding, as well as contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

SMB provides a stimulating and diverse research and training environment of international standing, where important and exciting areas of modern biology, biotechnology and medicine are investigated at the atomic, molecular, cellular and organism level. SMB’s research environment is enriched by the long-standing and successful partnership with colleagues in Biological Sciences at Birkbeck, within the cross-institutional Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology (ISMB).

The lecturer will be provided with appropriate laboratory space and access to research infrastructure across the ISMB and UCL, including laboratories for X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, NMR spectroscopy, biophysical methods, cell biology, optical microscopy, bioinformatics and mass spectrometry. Recruitment of PhD students will be enabled via Doctoral Training Centres.

As Lecturer in Cellular Biochemistry, your research interests may include, but are not restricted to, biochemistry, metabolic biochemistry or molecular biology, with expertise in cell-based approaches.

Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline and experience of conducting research at an internationally competitive level. The candidate must demonstrate experience of teaching to undergraduates or postgraduate students and evidence of contributions to the management or administration of an academic Department.
