We are looking for several Data Scientists to join a team developing an innovative new capability to help safeguard vulnerable people from organised crime. You will be able to work with exclusive datasets to develop powerful ML tools and be given the freedom to innovate, explore and experiment with cutting-edge approaches.

Specific job responsibilities include

  • Exploring a range of data science techniques to help tackle complex social issues, applying tools such as natural language processing, sequential data analysis / time-based algorithms and network/graph analysis.
  • Working in an interdisciplinary socio-tech environment to develop state of the art algorithmic explainability tools, working closely with social science, data ethics, data privacy, and data security.
  • The full lifecycle of a data science project, from data collection, exploratory data analysis, model optimisation to model deployment and monitoring
  • Support writing content for peer-reviewed articles, blogs, conferences and online media; and attending/presenting at national/international conferences and workshops.

About you

  • MSc/PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Social Science, Web-Sciences (or a related field) or ideally equivalent years of experience.
  • Ideally 2+ years’ postgraduate experience in data science (academic and / or industry).
  • Strong understanding of the theoretical grounds of machine learning.
  • Strong command of Python and in-depth knowledge of common data science libraries such as: sklearn, pandas, numpy, matplotlib, NLTK, etc.
  • Good interpersonal ability and can communicate findings to a wider, non-technical audience including social scientists and senior executives.

Additional experience beneficial to the role

  • Experience working in areas of natural language processing, sequential data analysis / time-based algorithms, or network/graph analysis.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Git, AWS, Docker, CI/CD.
  • Experience working in Agile Scrum environments.

Location: This position is open to candidates based in the UK ONLY. Candidates must have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years to meeting security vetting requirements.
Salary: Commensurate with experience (approx. £35 – £50k)
