The School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) at Queen Mary University of London is looking to sponsor outstanding applications for the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships.

We welcome expressions of interest from candidates with a completed PhD, an outstanding research proposal and an excellent academic and publication track record working in the following areas:

  • International Relations
  • Political theory
  • Comparative politics

This is an excellent opportunity for world-leading researchers to gain prestigious funding for the early stages of their academic career and the School will provide full support and guidance in developing selected applications. SPIR boasts a dynamic mix of approaches to research in politics and IR, including: public policy; political economy; security; global governance; US foreign policy; contemporary political theory; area specialisms (the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia), and post-colonialism.

Applicants in the first instance should contact the School’s Research Manager by email at: politics-pgresearch@qmul.ac.uk

  • CV (not more than 2 pages)
  • Outline research proposal including title, abstract (250 words), statement of past and current research (250 words) and 2 page (A4) project outline
  • Statement of eligibility: please state in a series of bullet points how you meet the Trust’s eligibility requirements

Deadline for receipt of expressions of interest is 10th December 2021. Applicants will be notified in the beginning of February 2022 as to whether SPIR will support a formal application to the scheme.

As this is a highly competitive scheme, applicants should check if their research is compatible with our research interests and indicate which research areas they want to be affiliated with, and check Leverhulme’s eligibility requirements before putting together an Expression of Interest.
