We are seeking an enthusiastic part-time Named Veterinary Surgeon (NVS) (0.4 FTE) with an interest in teaching to join the University of Surrey (0.0 to 0.4 FTE as Senior Teaching Fellow)

The University of Surrey is an international University with a world-class teaching and research profile and an enterprising spirit. Our research seeks to address global challenges, drive innovation, and deliver real-world impact.  The NVS role will support our recently refurbished state of the art, ASPA accredited, Biomedical Research Facility (BRF), housing research performed under the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA) with rodents and lagomorphs. Surrey provides an exceptional teaching environment to inspire and empower our students for personal and professional success. Inventive and forward thinking, our heritage shows a recurring theme of doing things differently and achieving notable results.  For example, we have won numerous Queen’s Anniversary Prizes, were awarded Gold for our Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) submission and host the UK’s newest accredited School of Veterinary Medicine.

You will be a Member of Fellow (or eligible to register) of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and either hold a relevant teaching qualification or be prepared to achieve one and will have excellent communication skills, an appetite for innovation, and ability to work well in a team. The role is offered from 0.4 to 0.8 FTE and is an exciting opportunity for an NVS to contribute to the University’s teaching and research (up to 0.4 FTE).

You will have a strong interest in developing and leading the local Culture of Care. You will support our animal ethics committees (e.g. AWERB) as well as the BRF team and researchers in delivering outstanding animal welfare and the University’s “one health :One medicine “vision. You will foster collaboration within the University and with external partners. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to shape their teaching role based on their previous experience.

In return, we offer an energetic and forward-thinking working environment with access to a variety of staff development opportunities.  You will also receive a competitive salary and a generous annual leave entitlement, USS pension scheme and discounted membership to the Surrey Sports Park.  The University is easily accessible by road and rail and is a short distance from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

For informal enquiries please contact Robin Labesse (r.labesse@surrey.ac.uk), BRF Manager or Professor Roberto La Ragione (r.laragione@surrey.ac.uk), Head of School.

We acknowledge, understand and embrace diversity and the School of Biosciences and Medicine is proud to be the recipient of the Equality Challenge Unit Athena SWAN Silver award.
