Job description:

The Role

Your role: This position is suitable for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Assistant or Associate in Statistics and Data Science. It is based in the Translational and Clinical Research Institute at Newcastle University with Dr Richard Dodds, Professor Sian Robinson, and Professor Avan Aihie Sayer. You will also work with Professor Fiona Matthews at Newcastle University, Professor Rachel Cooper at Manchester Metropolitan University and Professor Tom Marshall at the University of Birmingham.

You will become a key member of the new UKRI/NIHR funded ADMISSION Research Collaborative. You will focus primarily on Work Package 2 of ADMISSION - investigating the clusters of long-term conditions in routinely-collected data from hospitalised patients. You will work with the investigators and carry out analyses using data from Newcastle Hospitals and PIONEER - the Health Data Research Hub for Acute Care (based at the University of Birmingham). You will also use data from cohorts including UK Biobank and the SHARE Biobank (the Scottish Health Research Register). You will use a range of cutting-edge supervised and unsupervised clustering techniques. You will interact with colleagues across all five work packages (Data, Clustering of conditions, Inequalities, Pathways of Care, and Mechanisms), and with colleagues in related MRC-funded programmes to share best practice and new methods. ADMISSION includes a cross-cutting work package on Research Capacity Development to support the development of all the Postdoctoral Research Associates working on the research programme.

The project: ADMISSION aims to transform understanding of multiple long-term conditions in hospital patients. It will harness the power of ‘big data' from routinely collected hospital, primary and social care records, and other research studies, using cutting-edge data science to identify clusters of long-term conditions in hospital patients, and to understand their causes and consequences.

This is a full time fixed term post available for 3 years.
