Applications are invited from experienced Linux systems administrators to join Information and Computing Services (ICS) at the Department of Engineering's site in Trumpington Street.
You will join a team providing IT services, research support and advice to the Department's academic divisions on the Trumpington Street site, with a particular focus on the Mechanics, Materials and Design Division and the Information Engineering Division. Alongside other members of the team, you will work closely with academics and researchers and advise them on best practice for solving IT problems. You will have technical responsibility for the design, delivery, support and continuous improvement of areas of the divisions' IT infrastructure. This includes Linux workstations and servers, HPC clusters and mass data storage. By delivering against plans, and leading agreed technical projects, you will enable the divisions to pursue their goals in research, teaching and learning.
You will be educated to degree level or have an equivalent level of experience. The role requires someone with demonstrable experience of Linux system administration and configuration management, managing technical activities, working at a tactical or operational level to deliver technology change, and strong planning skills. In addition to this, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, an ability to work as a pro-active, persuasive and enthusiastic team member, together with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organisation.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
