Contract/Fixed Term: The post is funded for 2 years in the first instance.

The post-holder will undertake research as part of the EPSRC-funded project “Transforming synthetic drug manufacturing: novel processes, methods and tools”. This is a collaboration between the Centre for Process Systems Engineering, a multi-institutional research centre of world-class departments at UCL and Imperial College London, and Eli Lilly and Company, a global pharmaceutical company with a strong focus on research and development.

The overall research vision of the project is to deliver novel systems-based engineering design methods for the rapid development of manufacturing processes for advanced synthetic drugs and drug products, strongly rooted in scientific understanding and building on state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, explainable AI, modelling and experimental approaches.

The outcomes of the work will be a set of technologies, techniques, methods and tools that will enable faster and cheaper development, design and manufacturing of advanced therapeutics.

The successful candidate must have (or will soon be in the process of submitting) a PhD in Chemical Engineering. Candidates must have experience in modelling and optimisation, in particular, related to optimisation under risk and uncertainty relate to the design and operation of separation processes.

They should also have successfully completed (or be about to complete) a high-quality research project involving mathematical modelling and/or optimisation, should have experience of published in relevant high-quality journals, and should have experience of collaboration with external partners.
