We are currently inviting applications for a PhD in Politics funded by the Economic and Social Research Council as part of the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) Doctoral Training Partnership.

The Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Reading is home to a range of world-class researchers working on topics including Risk, Injustice, the ethics and implications of Climate Change, the comparative study of Elections, the nature and prospects of the European Far Right, and the workings of the United Nations.  We are currently inviting applications from students of all nationalities and backgrounds for a PhD funded by the Economic and Social Research Council as part of the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) Doctoral Training Partnership. We welcome applications in any area where our staff have expertise (see www.reading.ac.uk/spirs/staff-profiles/spirs-staff-profiles.aspx).  The department is methodologically plural, while favouring a strongly comparative approach.  It also hosts two interdepartmental research centres:

Funding Details:  

  • Tuition fees at the Home or International level, UKRI stipend and application access to funding for training, travel, fieldwork and overseas visits
  • Starts October 2022
  • 3-4 year award available depending on project and researcher experience/qualifications
  • Open to applications from candidates without a Master’s qualification
  • Available full- or part-time

Eligibility:

Applications are open to UK, EU and International applicants.  ESRC SeNSS funding covers tuition fees at the Home rate and the University of Reading will cover the difference between Home and International fees. 

Application Deadline: 

Early contact with the relevant subject/pathway lead to express your interest is strongly encouraged, ideally before Christmas, but at all events by 10 January 2022.

Applicants must apply for a place at the University of Reading by 14 January 2022 and for SeNSS funding by 12.00 noon on 25January 2022
