HT is a new interdisciplinary research institute, created and supported by the Italian government, whose aim is to develop innovative strategies to promote human health and aging through a multidisciplinary and integrated approach, combining genomics, computational and structural biology and neuroscience, as well as data and decisions sciences.

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a System Engineer (Database Technologies).

The Human Technopole Foundation (HT) is in the final phase of building its core IT Infrastructure and the team that will be responsible for the implementation and continued maintenance of various centralized IT systems.

This position is placed within the HT IT Team, reporting to the IT Manager, and will be responsible for identifying and maintaining relevant database technologies which will house the foundations key data assets across both scientific and administrative areas.

(S)He will have the following main responsibilities:

  • Architect, design and configure large, complex databases with replication and high-availability on the most current database technologies;
  • Organize and format data for efficient query and storage processes;
  • Manage access and privileges and audit database-level security;
  • Continuous maintenance, upgrades and patching;
  • Develop, manage and test backup and recovery plans;
  • Monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users;
  • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
  • Advise the HT community in their database usage;
  • Contribute towards standard infrastructure administrative tasks on Linux based systems

Job requirements:

  • University degree in Computer Science, related fields or equivalent experience;
  • Ideally 5 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Strong working knowledge of various database technologies, one of which must include Neo4j or equivalent;
  • Professional certification as appropriate;
  • Proven experience managing enterprise grade technical database architectures;
  • Experience working with Git for version control;
  • Experience working with Ansible;
  • Previous work experience in publicly funded or private research institutes will be considered a plus;
  • Previous experience of handling datasets related to scientific research is appreciated;
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who are part of the protected categories list, according to L. 68/99.
