GRTA Studentship - Operating Department Practitioner Workforce Development (REF: GRTA-HS-ODP). Apply Here

Contact for informal enquiries: Professor Joanne Brooke (joanne.brooke@bcu.ac.uk )

The Operating Department Practitioner [ODP] profession has undergone considerable professional transformation over the past decade with the publication of the degree curriculum in 2011 and coming under the remit of the Chief Allied Health Professions Officer [in England] in 2017.  Furthermore, there has been increased opportunities in clinical practice as ODPs have taken on increasingly diverse extended and advanced roles; and their transferable skill set gained national recognition during the Covid-19 pandemic when they were deployed into critical care.

This project is focused on an aspect of the development of the ODP workforce in relation to the development of the profession.  There is scope for the successful candidate to shape the research question.

In the Graduate Research & Teaching Assistant role, the candidate will be based in the Department of ODP and Paramedic Science. They will be expected to contribute to teaching and related activity for our suite of programmes in ODP / perioperative practice.  For that reason, preference will be given to candidates who are registered health professionals with experience in perioperative practice.
