This post is full time (35 hours per week) and is offered on an open-ended basis.

The James Watt School of Engineering (JWSE) at the University of Glasgow is an energetic and growing international centre of excellence for Engineering research and teaching. The School leads research in five Divisions: Autonomous Systems and Connectivity; Biomedical Engineering; Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering; Infrastructure and Environment; and Systems, Power and Energy. We have 140 academics and 168 post-doctoral researchers supported by 61 technicians and 27 professional services staff. Currently we have 450 research students working towards doctorates.

We are seeking to fill a position for an ambitious academic to join the Division of Systems, Power and Energy, specifically related to research in Energy Harvesting and Storage. Energy harvesting covers a broad range of energy sources including mechanical vibration, human motion and electromagnetics. Energy storage also covers a broad range, from incorporation with energy harvesting to much larger schemes, contributing to smart local energy systems (SLES), that aim to minimize energy wastage and maximize resilience.

The post holder will join a vibrant environment with world leading groups in Energy and Sustainability; Materials and Manufacturing; Medical and Industrial Ultrasonics; Robotics and Autonomous Systems, and a School-wide Net Zero Challenge. The Division hosts fundamental research that is developed with the ambition to lead to industrial and academic impact. We expect the successful academic to complement and synergise with existing activities and to develop a network of collaborations locally (across the School of Engineering and the University) as well as to liaise with industry and clinicians to translate their research to the highest impact.
