Salary: - Grade 9: £48,835 - £56,587 with a discretionary range to £61,818 per annum. With reduced responsibilities and duties, this post can be offered at Grade 8: £42,149 - £50,296 with a discretionary range to £54,943 per annum
We are seeking a highly-motivated Deputy Manager to support the Head of Bioinformatics at The Bioinformatics Core at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics. This role is ideal for applicants with extensive bioinformatics experience and a desire to move into a managerial role.
You will be responsible for overseeing and developing the bioinformatics support provided to researchers at WHG, supervising or line-managing some members of the group, as well as providing hands-on bioinformatics input to specific areas and projects. You will manage and monitor resources and budgets and contribute to establishing the strategic direction and setting standards for the work of the wider group. You will develop ideas for generating research income and promoting the research area and write funding applications for specific avenues of strategic activity, and write documentation/reports and lead meetings as required.
It is essential that you hold a relevant post-graduate qualification in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or similar field, and have demonstrable specialist knowledge, skills and experience to develop and oversee large programmes of technical work to a successful conclusion by agreed deadlines. You will have a recognised authority in the field of bioinformatics through extensive relevant experience, and have the ability to lead and motivate a team of research staff. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to converse clearly in both technical and strategic discussions is essential for this role.
