We are seeking a Project Manager to join Professor Peter Simmonds group in the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, to take a substantial management role in a recently awarded Blood Transfusion Research Unit (BTRU). This large research programme, entitled Genomic Revolutions in Donation Screening and Safety (GRiDDS) is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) for a 5-year period and provides the resources for a major expansion of genomics-based technologies in blood and transplant donation screening and emerging virus / pandemic preparedness for NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) and allied blood services. 

As part of the Project Management team, you will coordinate the running of research projects, including the scientific and financial management of the group’s activities, interactions with professional organisations and other stakeholders in the programme, including operational managers from NHSBT and donor and patient representative groups. 

The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in the management of the Project. You will work with the Unit Director and Theme Leads in the guidance of the Project, organisation of meeting logistics, committee meeting management and reporting, and a key role in implementing project plans for the programmes. 

You will hold a PhD, or an undergraduate degree with equivalent experience, in addition to significant project management experience of complex scientific projects, and a proven track record of planning, managing, and controlling successful projects to ensure the timely delivery within budget. 

Evidence of strong analytical and numerical skills and of developing and managing budgets is also essential, as well as strong interpersonal skills to work efficiently in large multidisciplinary teams. 

The post is full-time and fixed term for up to 5 years in the first instance. 

You work will be primarily based in the Peter Medawar Building in central Oxford, but you will be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.
