Job description

The School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences seeks to appoint a highly organised and experienced clinical research professional to manage and support investigator-led multi-centre and single centre clinical research studies as well as coordinate and support hosted clinical research studies. The post holder is a member of the School’s professional services team, providing high quality clinical study support, with projects ranging from data only, observational studies to clinical investigations and clinical trials. The postholder will provide specific support for the School’s clinical research operations and governance activities working closely with academic and research staff.

The School is an innovative and dynamic academic environment that recently opened new facilities pivotal in the delivery of cutting-edge medical technology to clinical practice aimed at delivering outcomes that have real-world, life-improving impacts. Some of this work includes the production and evaluation of novel surgical tools, computer-assisted interventions, implanted devices that are being tested prior to first-in-patient studies and the translation of novel real-time multimodal imaging modalities. The School has attracted multi-million pound research funding and collaborates with Faculties within KCL, the NHS, Local Clinical Research Networks, charitable trusts and foundations, international universities and industry.

This post will provide strategically informed clinical project management support, working closely with teams responsible for research, translation, healthcare, and industry both internal and external to KCL. The ability to communicate and confidently relay scientific and academic information to a wide-ranging audience will be important as well as an ability to work collaboratively, fostering and building relationships with partners and key stakeholders.

This post will support all activities related to the development, set up and smooth running of the assigned clinical research projects. The postholder will be someone who can successfully manage a diverse and busy workload largely autonomously, have the ability to adapt to change, be flexible and use own initiative and creativity to solve problems. Experience in managing clinical research will be essential as would an understanding of the legal, regulatory and statutory guidelines governing clinical research. Specific experience with medical device development will be a real advantage.

The post holder will report to the School Specialist Technical Operations Manager.
