The Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) is seeking to recruit a Data Scientist to join the MORU Clinical Therapeutics Unit in Bangkok, Thailand headed by Professor Nicholas White.
You will take the lead in data analysis, methods development, and statistical modelling for a variety of projects relating to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and improvement in global health. You will Identify, define and plan new projects which contribute to the overall aims of studies and clinical trials, and advise and collaborate with clinical and laboratory staff on a day-to-day basis. You will develop novel methodologies for analysis and data collection in collaboration with members of the research team, developing or tailoring analytical tools and resources appropriate to the work.
It is essential that you have a PhD in Statistics, Machine Learning, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or another quantitative field. You should have demonstrable experience, ability and practical success solving quantitative problems, and be proficient in the use of at least one programming language, but you don’t need to have worked in medical research before. You should be willing to work in a multi-cultural environment, be happy to collaborate with clinical and laboratory scientists and be enthusiastic and creative about the new research challenges. Effective communication skills, both orally and written, for presenting research results clearly to a broad audience are necessary for the role.
