The University of Plymouth, a leading university in the South West, is seeking to recruit a Building Services Engineer (Projects: Mechanical & Electrical) to work as part of our Estates team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a progressive and cutting-edge university in a beautiful location, where you can really make a difference.
Estates and Facilities have exciting and ambitious plans for the development of the University estate. The Campus Masterplan includes the development of the landmark Intercity Place; an 11 storey building overlooking Plymouth Railway Station, and the New Engineering and Design Facility on the western edge of the main Plymouth campus. We are looking for an experienced Building Services Engineer (Projects: Mechanical & Electrical) to join the team and be an integral part of managing and maintaining our evolving estate.
The University is a multi-site operation with a sizeable proportion of its activities taking place on or close to the main campus in Plymouth, which is where this role is based. This will be a site-based role where, as the Building Services Engineer (Projects: Mechanical & Electrical) subject matter expert, you will take responsibility for the university’s buildings and its capital and revenue works, associated assets, policies, processes and safe systems of work.
As Building Services Engineer you will provide specialist mechanical & electrical engineering skill, knowledge and expertise, to contribute to the delivery of the programme of repair, refurbishment and new build projects. You will focus on the technical aspects of construction projects and support the management of external consultants and contractors. You will produce, submit and manage successful statutory consents.
A major focus of the role is creating forward works plans based on surveys and inspections of the estate, leading in the delivery of capital minor works packages (works value up to £1million), as well as the provision of operational maintenance activities.
As an integral part of the Estates Minor Works and Surveying Team you will ensure that capital project and revenue maintenance works are compliant with appropriate legislation and regulations. You will work in partnership with stakeholders and other colleagues to deliver effective customer focused services and will possess excellent communication and organisational skills.
You will have detailed knowledge of Compliance activity and will ideally hold, or be willing to gain, a formal H&S qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH or other equivalent H&S qualification).
Please demonstrate how you meet the criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement.
For an informal discussion to find out more about the role please contact David Pollock, Principal Building Surveyor by email email@example.com or by telephone on 07772 459165.
Interviews are expected to take place on Friday 14th January 2022 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.
This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
Flexible working options including job share will be considered.
We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities.
