The School of Social Sciences is seeking a Senior Lecturer in Data Science. This post is part of a larger recruitment of ten data science posts during 2021-22 to expand the existing vibrant staff team. Amongst other goals we are aiming to expand Manchester’s provision of Data Science Teaching and Learning. This post will be a permanent post from 1 February 2022 or thereafter.
We have an existing unique interdisciplinary MSc Data Science programme which is incredibly popular with over 3000 applications this year for 50 places. Phase one of the new programme is to expand intake numbers to 200. Phase 2 will build a similarly innovative interdisciplinary BSc programme. This new team will push forward the development plans and this particular post will provide leadership of that process with the goal of taking over as programme director in 2023.
It is essential that all teaching staff on the programme are expected to be research active and applicants must have established an international reputation in Data Science or related discipline, supported by a record of published research output and a wider record of achievement. Applicants with specializations in Social Data Science or Computational Social Science are particularly welcome. This post would be suited to somebody with ambitions to work towards promotion to chair on a balanced portfolio of research, teaching, and leadership excellence.
