We are seeking to appoint an independent Chair for the Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Board (AWERB) who will enhance and promote a positive culture of care across the University and champion continuous improvement in animal welfare and the 3Rs.
What will you be doing?
The AWERB is critical to ensuring that animal research at Bristol is ethically reviewed, carefully regulated and adheres strictly to the University’s policy on working with animals. AWERB proactively reviews proposals for experiments involving animals before a project starts, and reviews completed projects for compliance with external regulatory and our own policy requirements. AWERB reports to the Establishment License Holder.
The University of Bristol is ranked among the world’s leading research-intensive universities. Wherever possible, our research relies on computer models, human volunteers, or cells grown in the laboratory. Only when absolutely necessary, we also support the principle of using animals in research in order to advance our understanding of health and disease and improve the lives of both animals and humans.
Candidates wishing to discuss the role in more detail are invited to contact Professor Jane Norman, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Chair of the Animal Services Management Board for the University (via Gayle Hanbury, Senior Faculty Assistant, email@example.com); or Lucinda Parr, Registrar and University Secretary and Establishment License Holder (via firstname.lastname@example.org).
The role is 4 hours per week to be worked flexibly.
The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on Tuesday 7th December.
We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
