An exciting opportunity has arisen for a frontend engineer to join the technical team of Thiscovery, THIS Institute's online research and development platform. Thiscovery enables NHS staff, patients and the general public to take part in healthcare improvement research.

Funded by the Health Foundation, The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (THIS Institute) has a re-mit to advance research into how to improve the quality and safety of patient care.

You will be responsible for designing and developing intuitive and accessible front-end components for Thiscovery. Working collaboratively with a small technical team in an agile and dynamic environment, you will develop and implement innovative web-based solutions to help deliver the institute's mission to strengthen the evidence-base for improvement and build capacity in research methods. You will contribute to the design and development of external facing UX aspects of the Thiscovery platform as a whole and, alongside others in the team, will also be expected to assist in general platform operation (for example, to support researchers in designing, editing and testing surveys).

Thiscovery is Open Source and built using the latest technologies including a distributed service-oriented and event-driven architecture, AWS, NoSQL, Vue.js, etc. The position therefore offers exceptional opportunities for you to grow your technical and non-technical skills.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in an appropriate subject or have equivalent knowledge, skills and understanding gained through experience/professional qualification and have experience of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript framework, (for example: REACT, Vue.js, Angular), Single-page applications (SPA) website design, Interaction with backend APIs and UX design/user testing.

The position is full time.  We welcome part-time applications for no less than 80% FTE per week

The post holder will be based at Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Strangeways Research Laboratory, Worts Causeway, Cambridge CB1 8RN however; there is potential for this role to be carried out remotely (with a minimum of one day a week in the office).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 July 2023 in the first instance, with the possibility of an extension of five years.
