We seek an ambitious researcher with strong statistical and quantitative skills and experience in using large longitudinal datasets for research in health or education.
This post is one of four for the “Health Outcomes for young People throughout Education” (HOPE) study at UCL Institute of Child Health and Institute of Education and UCL Social Research Institute and the University of Cambridge.
The HOPE Study will exploit a novel linkage of administrative data from hospitals and schools for all children in England (the ECHILD database) to address two aims:
To investigate the impact of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision on children’s health.
To establish methods, tools and exemplars for ongoing evaluation of the inter-relationships between SEND provision and health.
Meeting these aims will improve the understanding of the impact of SEND provision in schools on health outcomes and drivers of educational outcomes. The research is intended to inform decisions made by policy makers, service providers, practitioners across health and education, children and families, and researchers.
PhD in relevant discipline (e.g. epidemiology, statistics, health informatics) or related experience. Experience of data management, curation, linkage and analysis methods for large, administrative datasets. Advanced skills in at least one statistical software package (e.g. STATA, R, SQL). Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and multi-institutional and international collaborations. Excellent writing and presenting skills, and the ability to explain technical and/ or scientific reports to a wide range of scientific and lay audiences.
A DBS check will also need to be carried out once appointed.
