LGC’s “Grant Management Group” (GMG), is a diverse team of 220 friendly people, who together manage £0.5 billion of health research funding on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care. This means we help decide which organisations are allocated money to develop their health research, and we then monitor that funding. Previously this has included projects around cancer, diabetes, global health, and dementia.  We are very proud to have commissioned critical research supporting the development of the Oxford/Astra Zeneca Covid vaccine.

We are now looking for an experienced individual to work with the Head of Governance to provide comprehensive leadership and support to the organisation in one or more of the following areas: Policy development and compliance, Risk Management and/or Corporate Governance. This is an exciting role where no one day is the same and offers great development opportunities for the right candidate.

The Role: 

  • Deputising for the Head of Governance, you will work across a broad range of areas, including corporate governance, information governance risk management, compliance, continuous improvement, and annual planning
  • Your primary responsibility will be to ensure policies are fit for purpose, reviewed, and updated regularly 
  • You will identify gaps in policies and procedures and be responsible for their development, dissemination and compliance 
  • You will work closely with the Head of Governance to ensure management of risks are understood across the organisation and implement a fit for purpose Risk Management Framework


Skills and Experience 

  • A breadth of experience and knowledge, with the ability to develop expertise in other areas under the remit of the Governance, Performance and Improvement Team
  • Strong communication skills both orally and in writing
  • The ability to gather information systematically from multiple sources, analyse the results and present findings
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good technical skills using a range of systems, with experience of using Microsoft and Google packages to a good standard 
  • Educated to degree level and/or equivalent professional qualifications in the relevant area
