University of Leeds - Frontiers Institute

Location: Leeds
Salary: £42,149 to £50,296
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 23rd November 2021
Closes: 3rd December 2021
Job Ref: CSRIS1205

Are you a creative and inspirational individual with a passion for cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and an excellent understanding of what makes it happen? Are you skilled at bringing people together, to help create new connections, develop new ideas, and engage new partners? Are you committed to both the intellectual excitement and real-world impact of innovative research, and to helping to foster the equal, diverse, and inclusive culture that the Frontiers Institute aims to shape?

The University Strategic Plan (2020-2030) sets out an ambition to place the University of Leeds at the heart of a global network, finding innovative solutions to regional, national, and global challenges. Key to delivering this vision is the development and launch of a Frontiers Institute that will challenge colleagues to shape radical new approaches to the ‘wicked problems’ that confront the world; work with external partners to showcase Leeds research excellence and generate new ideas for productive collaboration; and develop global partnerships based on equality and mutual benefit. A key dimension of the Frontiers Institute’s work will be to encourage new ways of interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral working, with an essential focus on equality, diversity and inclusion and a commitment to breaking down the traditional distinction between student education and excellent research.

We are now seeking to recruit Research Managers to work with the Director in helping to establish the Institute as a hub for creativity, partnership and impact while developing a culture of transparency, equality, and mutual benefit. You will be responsible for identifying new opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaborations, bringing together academics from across the University to form new collaborations, and facilitate their team-building, also identifying and working with external partners. You will also be involved in fostering international collaborations, particularly with early-career researchers, and/or developing partnerships for impact with local communities, third-sector organisations, and business. You will work with academics from all career stages and diverse backgrounds, Professional Services colleagues, and external partners, to foster new collaborations, establish new partnerships, and support impact. This will be an intense but rewarding endeavour that will involve risk-taking and failure but also the satisfaction of creating something new and dynamic.

Research Managers for Creativity, Partnership and Impact will have restless and curious minds, be creative, and keen to take the initiative. It will be necessary to quickly build networks across the University and externally, and to work effectively in a complex and changing environment. You will be considerate, persuasive, and engaging, and mindful of what constitutes a transparent and fair research culture.

This post will give the post holders the opportunity to be part of a diverse academic community that are looking beyond the boundaries of their research to explore real novelty when applied to external challenges. All team members will be building external networks that feed this thinking.
