Principal Lecturer in General Engineering (T&S)

Additional information: This role will be predominately based at Mansfield campus, with regular travel to the Clifton campus required.

We seek a Principal Lecturer in General Engineering who will contribute to leading and delivering our ambitious plans to continue to grow the Department of Engineering at Nottingham Trent University.

The Department is characterised by an innovative approach to education in partnership with industry, emphasising innovation and project delivery on a foundation of core engineering expertise. You will be an inspiring educator, who aims to develop project-based teaching in the context of real-world applications, and who thrives in a collegiate Department.  The department has recently been recognised as a member of CDIO.

You will be highly qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline and expertise in Engineering scholarship.  You will have a proven track record of delivering engaging and effective learning across Level 4 to 6 programmes, with an up-to-date expertise in blended learning.  You will have an appreciation of quality processes in further and higher education in the UK, and expectations from industry and accrediting bodies.  You will have experience of developing new modules and programmes, and of working alongside colleagues to ensure success for students. 

This is an exciting opportunity to pioneer new opportunities and pathways with our strategic partners in the FE sector, local industry and employers. Specifically, this senior post will lead and develop new level 4 & 5 opportunities and HTQ level pathways for FE student progression from Level 4 and 5 onto degree level top-up provision, within the existing areas of General, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic and Manufacturing Engineering, with potential to develop further innovative vocational provision to meet the growing needs of industry in Nottinghamshire.  

It is renowned for leading edge research, strong links with industry and its excellent teaching that shape lives and society. Research in the School of Science and Technology is extremely strong in terms of high quality outputs, funding income, and international impact. The Department’s research strengths are clustered into groups comprising: Human Factors and Performance,  Smart Materials, Medical Engineering Design, Smart Wearables and Biomedical Interfaces, Digital Innovation, and Advanced Optics and Photonics.  The Department maintains strong international links in both research and teaching.

The Department of Engineering launched new programmes in Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Sport Engineering in 2017, and in Mechanical Engineering in 2018.  It launched a Foundation Degree in Engineering and Mathematics in 2019nand opened its purpose-built facilities in September 2019.
