Our growing teams are teaching, exploring and practising in some of the most exciting areas in the field of computing and the processing of digital media. Our research groups include the DMT Lab (who specialise in HCI/UX research around augmented/virtual reality systems, accessibility and assistive technology, multimodal interfaces, future networks, and audio/music information retrieval); data science and big data analytics, and cybersecurity and digital forensics.

We are a practice-based school, making our teaching and research relevant to the evolving market for computer skills by partnering with local and global enterprise in areas such as smart cities, medical applications, the media production industry, and IoT applications. This is particularly relevant in our MSc User Experience Design course where students are encouraged to work on existing innovative research projects or in partnership with external industry organisations to tackle real-world issues. We work in a collaborative and cross disciplinary culture, where interacting freely across the school and with colleagues is encouraged to gain a unique insight into impactful problem domains. 

We invite applications to join our integrated teaching and research teams in the Department for Digital Media Technology at Senior Lecturer level. For this role we are particularly seeking applicants who bring skills in Human Computer Interaction with a strong technical background. 

  • Teaching as a member of the HCI and Digital Media Technology team in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Contributing to the development of high-quality research outputs in reputable journals and conference proceedings (in collaboration with colleagues in the HCI group), as well as in developing bids and partnerships for research funding.
  • Developing own teaching materials and managing learner cohorts.
  • Ensuring the efficient delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy and procedures.
  • Setting and marking assessments, as well as providing constructive feedback to students.
  • Seeking ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
  • Ability to contribute to engagement with industry partners to realise the Department for DMT’s aim to be an international authority in HCI research and practice. 

Skills and Experience  


  • Hold a PhD in HCI, UX, or a related applied technical computing subject, or have equivalent industry experience.  
  • Excellent working knowledge of interaction design, usability testing, experimental design, and statistical analysis (quantitative/qualitative). 
  • Applicants should have demonstrated excellent teaching in higher education or have presented to technical audiences in an industry setting. 
  • Excellent team working and communication skills.


  • Eligible for Senior Fellow status under the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Standards Framework.
  • Experience of designing and leading modules in a Higher Education environment.
  • Have a strong record of research and research publications. 
  • Experience of HCI and UX in an industry context.
  • Experience of HCI/Usability for the web with experience of technical web development.
