This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious multidisciplinary researcher to fast-track their career development as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate in a 2-year collaborative project between Reconome and Brunel University London. You’ll develop a scalable, holistic social / environmental / economic impact assessment platform to encourage businesses to donate IT devices so they can be refurbished and rehomed with underserved communities.

You will join a vibrant, dynamic team of academics and professionals working together to help communities thrive, reduce electronic waste and promote sustainability, with emphasis on creating a transparent, scalable system of measuring sustainability performance.

The role will be based predominantly at Reconome’s premises in Leytonstone (London E11).

You will take a leading role in delivering the objectives of the project through the application of a range of techniques and modelling. The post will focus on data-driven solutions to guide the design and development of a bespoke tool to inform the sustainability of refurbished electronics. You will receive extensive practical and formal training, gain marketable skills and broaden your knowledge and expertise within an industrially relevant project.

The candidate should have:

  • a PhD in Environmental Engineering or Management, Data Science, or, a relevant engineering or science discipline;

  • great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with impact with a variety of stakeholders: you will need to confidently ask for, source and present information face to face

  • proven ability in acquiring and interpreting data & analytical tools, including modelling skills, SQL and database development    

  • relevant knowledge and experience in solid waste management systems, systems assessment and evaluation. based on multi-dimensional impacts;

  • understanding of empirical research techniques

  • ability to plan and organise your own workload and experience in carrying out research under pressure;

  • ability to work as part of a team and to have excellent research management and presentation skills.

The successful candidate will benefit from a personal training budget of £4k, and additional residential management training courses as part of the KTP programme. It is expected that they have the capability of taking the ownership of the project, and be able to work productively with guidance, including management of finances, resources and timing.
