Join us in this role where you, together with the team, will lead the development and application of methods for optimization and decision-making under uncertainty with a focus on applications in integrated energy systems.

In this position you will conduct research and teaching in the field of decision-making under uncertainty. The main applications will be in intelligent and integrated energy systems. The research exploits new optimization methods to improve operations and decision-making within complex planning problems for energy systems, companies, markets, smart cities and smart societies. To complement and/or integrate these energy applications, related optimization methods in logistics’ operations and scheduling problems will be explored as well. As a colleague in the Section for Dynamical Systems you will be part of a large, vibrant and welcoming environment which is internationally rooted.

Responsibilities and qualifications

You will be responsible for leading research activities related to decision-making under uncertainty and optimization at the Dynamical Systems Section. Specific responsibilities and tasks will include the following:

  • You will research new optimization approaches for various applications (mainly energy systems).
  • You will develop advanced and innovative solution techniques for complex and/or real-time problems.
  • You will engage in exploiting novel combinations and synergy effects with the other methodologies researched and used at the section, especially forecasting and control, in collaboration with your colleagues.
  • You will engage in project management activities and funding applications related to your field of research.
  • You will work in close collaboration with academic and industry partners.

In your career you have focused on decision-making under uncertainty and optimization methods with experience in applications to energy systems and enjoyed teaching activities within the area/field.

More specifically, you should have the following qualifications:

  • Experience with mathematical modelling (linear and mixed integer linear programming) and optimization under uncertainty (stochastic programming, robust optimization)
  • Experience with solving large-scale optimization models
  • Preferably experience with project management and funding applications
  • Preferably experience with statistics, forecasting and machine learning
