The Post

The University of Stirling has a vacancy for a Network Specialist subject matter expert. Working as the team lead in a team of three Network Specialists, the successful candidate will be responsible for the support, deployment and maintenance of the Campus Network (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi) and System Security infrastructure as well as managing the team on a day-to-day basis.

The University of Stirling data network provides wired and wireless connectivity for students and staff across main campus and off-campus student residences in Stirling and Bridge of Allan. The campus network follows the traditional 3-tier design and comprises approximately 550 network switches and 2,400 wireless access points.

Reporting directly to the Head of Infrastructure, the successful candidate will be responsible for tracking and resolving all assigned support requests, have a high level of technical competency, and bring a range of experience from numerous IT disciplines. The successful candidate will also manage the network specialists on a day-to-day basis, ensuring performance standards are adhered to, and resolve issues or concerns escalated to them by the team or others within the University.

The role requires the Infrastructure Development Senior Network Specialist to ensure that the LAN/WAN can provide the required services by supporting the network infrastructure through the use of troubleshooting, monitoring and complex problem resolution in a production environment and ultimately enhancing User experience.

Network security will be one of the most important duties of the role. The successful candidate will help implement secure network access protocols and then monitor, evaluate, and resolve issues. Good documentation and record keeping skills are essential.

The Infrastructure Development Senior Network Specialist (Team Lead) role is an exciting opportunity to combine IT infrastructure knowledge and infrastructure strategy development with team leadership.
