Lecturer in Fine Art

Oxford Brookes University

Location: Oxford
Salary: 36,382 rising annually to £39,739
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 22nd December 2021
Closes: 23rd January 2022
Job Ref: 119157

We are looking to appoint a new academic colleague to join our Fine Art team at Oxford Brookes University.

This is a permanent, full-time post; with the possibility of part time/ job share.

As Lecturer in Fine Art, the successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of our undergraduate and postgraduate Fine Art programmes. We encourage innovative and engaging forms of teaching that are tailored to students of Fine Art. The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Fine Art (or a related area), or have equivalent professional experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the programme’s innovative new creative careers modules. We seek someone who would approach this role with imagination and enthusiasm, as well as the ability to effectively network with potential industry partners to support these modules.

Applications are welcomed from exceptional candidates able to teach across a broad range of artistic disciplines. As a School increasingly seeking to break the boundaries between art practice and theory, you will also be confident in delivering Critical Theory lectures on an area within your specialism.

The successful candidate will have an established practice, and a developing research profile (commensurate with their career stage). This can include practice-based research and/or Knowledge Exchange. Just as important is a desire and willingness to contribute to the cultural environment of the School of Arts, and to help increase its industry networks and exposure.

You will be joining a rich and diverse research culture, with the School of Arts home to CoRA (Centre of Research in the Arts), the Sonic Arts Research Unit (SARU), the Opera Research Unit (OBERTO), and the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies (OICPS).

This will be an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their academic career in an ambitious, forward-thinking and supportive university department.

This is a full-time post, which we would also consider as a job share opportunity. In the event of a job share, our preference would be a 50/50 split. Please indicate clearly on your application form whether you are applying for this position as a full-time or shared role, and if the latter please indicate any days of the week that you would be unable to work.

To apply, please submit:

  • An up-to-date CV
  • A supportive statement clearly outlining how you conform to the person specification, and including your reasons for applying
  • A digital portfolio of work, or a link to your website.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Alexandra Bickley Trott, Programme Lead for Art & Design: atrott@brookes.ac.uk.

There will be two rounds of interviews, which we aim to hold on the following dates:

-      Round 1 interviews (online): w/c 28th February 2022

-      Round 2 interviews and presentation (in-person where possible): w/c 21st or 28th March 2022.
