We are looking to expand our vibrant Mechanical Engineering community and looking for an individual who will contribute to maintaining a welcoming, inclusive, diverse and inspiring environment for our students and whose expertise will complement and enhance our existing research capabilities. Working within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, you will join the Insigneo Institute for Insilico Medicine. The Insigneo Institute is an initiative between the Faculties of Engineering, Medicine, and Science at the University of Sheffield, and the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. Insigneo was established to build on tools and expertise developed in the Virtual Physiological Human initiative, with the aim of producing a transformational impact on healthcare.
A key part of this role will be developing and supporting staff and students are earlier stages of their careers, meaning we are looking for an individual with a passion for leadership & people development. You will have a clear idea of how your research builds upon our current departmental portfolio, and the ways in which it may influence our future direction. You will be equally passionate about teaching, with a willingness and enthusiasm for accepting and implementing new approaches in this area.
Mechanical Engineering has been a major discipline in the University of Sheffield since its foundation in 1905 and is a thriving department within the University’s Faculty of Engineering. We are one of the UK’s leading departments of Mechanical Engineering, and are home to over 1000 students (Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Research). We have over 60 academic members of staff, over 50 researchers, almost 40 members of administrative staff and 29 technicians. 2022 is an exciting time to join the department of Mechanical Engineering as we have recently moved into our £50m home – the Engineering Heartspace!
You will are an internationally renowned academic of senior industrial technologist with experience in delivering high-quality research in Biomechanics. You will have a good first degree and a PhD in a relevant discipline. You will be able to provide effective leadership and you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and experience of developing and delivering high-quality teaching at a variety of levels. Within the Department and Insigneo you will continue to develop your own academic career, contributing strongly in teaching, research and scholarship that is recognized internationally for its originality, significance and rigor.
