Promatix is a young and vibrant oncology therapeutics company with its headquarters based in central London, UK. The company’s goal is to develop new oncology drugs that significantly improve survival for a group of patients with a high unmet need. The company has the world's most comprehensive membrane protein database for identifying druggable oncology targets (TxPro) and will combine this with leading computational approaches to create a world-leading target discovery and validation platform. Promatix will use this platform to identify and triage in-licensing assets and initiate internal target discovery. The company is incubated and funded by ALSA ventures, a London-based life sciences venture capital firm.
As a component of this target discovery and validation platform, the company collaborates with the Fisher Lab at the Cancer Institute at UCL. This lab investigates the evolutionary dynamics of cancer (initiation, progression, response to therapy and emergence of resistance) using computational models www.ucl.ac.uk/cancer/fisher-lab.
We are seeking two highly motivated and qualified Research Fellows to join Promatix's computational biology group with the mission to develop better new therapeutics to improve the outcome for cancer patients using Promatix TxPro data and the Fisher lab’s computational models.
The post holders will be seconded into the Fisher lab for an initial period during which they will be expected to make significant contributions to the development of computational models for the cancers being jointly studied by Promatix and the Fisher lab. Following on from this initial period, the post holders will transition to delivering on Promatix’s ambition to create a world-leading target discovery and validation platform, applying the models developed in conjunction with the Fisher Lab to Promatix’s TxPro database.
Applicants will have a PhD degree in computational biology, computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics or bioinformatics, or a degree in biological science with substantial experience in computational work. Experience in formal verification methods (in particular, model checking, temporal logic, static analysis, SAT solving and program synthesis), logical modeling and statistical analysis are essential. Candidates should have excellent programming skills in Python, MATLAB, and R. Experience in machine learning and proteomics or other omics is desirable.
Applicants must have experience in presenting complex scientific concepts and content both in writing and verbally. They will show a strong commitment to the Promatix mission and embody its values through excellent collaborative interpersonal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting.
