The School of Arts & Social Sciences is an internationally excellent centre of research and learning on the human condition in all its dimensions. It is a large and vibrant School with around 4,200 students (one third postgraduate) and over 270 staff in seven Departments: Economics, English, International Politics, Journalism, Music, Sociology and Psychology. The School aims to attract outstanding members of academic staff who will produce world-leading or internationally excellent research of benefit to society; provide innovative and exciting programmes of study; and enrich the lives and enhance the career prospects of its students.
The Department of Economics is a dynamic centre for research and undergraduate and postgraduate education. It has core research strengths in microeconomic theory, experimental and behavioural economics, development economics, financial economics and econometrics, health economics and macroeconomics. The Department delivers a growing PhD Programme alongside its highly successful BSc and MSc programmes and is part of the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) Doctoral Training Partnerships funded by the ESRC.
The Department is seeking to appoint two outstanding academics as Lecturer in Economics. The appointed candidates will have a record of producing internationally excellent research in Economics, with a clear publication plan for submission for future REF exercises, and the commitment and capability to deliver high quality education in the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Additionally, the candidates will support, supervise and mentor students and undertake administrative duties at Programme, Departmental, School and University level. We welcome applications from all major fields in Economics and Finance.
Applicants should have a PhD in Economics or cognate field, as well as sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop education and research programmes and methodologies. Please see the Job description for full details of the role and person specification.
