Dyson Ltd

Location: Malmesbury
Salary: Competitive
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 11th January 2022
Closes: 22nd February 2022
Job Ref: JR3643

The role

If you are passionate about mentoring and guiding young people on their career path, you will love working with our undergraduate engineers. The Careers Advisor role will enable us to expand our existing careers provision and build a sector-leading service to ensure our Undergraduate Engineers are aware of the pathways available to them, and able to create their own success after the Institute. You’ll be based on the Dyson Technology campus in Malmesbury and will report into the Professional Development Manager, working closely with the Professional Development team and collaborating across The Dyson Institute and Dyson Early Careers teams.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the development and delivery of the career development and employability programme for all Undergraduates – supporting them regardless of what they choose to do after the Institute
  • Supporting the Undergraduates to take charge of their own career development, at the Institute and beyond, in collaboration with their Student Support Advisors and academic tutors
  • Delivering career guidance workshops, mock interviews and creating self-serve career development resources, and/or working with external third parties to deliver a sector-leading service
  • Offering advice and guidance regarding opportunities for engineering graduates, making our undergraduates aware of the possibilities open to them and supporting them in finding the path that’s right for them
  • Improving and iterating the Professional Development plan to ensure employability skills are incorporated into students’ learning at appropriate moments in their Institute journey
  • Horizon scanning to keep up to date with external legislation and career development trends in the engineering sector and other relevant areas
  • Work closely with the Early Careers team to support any Undergraduates choosing to stay at Dyson post-graduation, identifying and addressing any skills gaps among the students where necessary

About you

  • Ability to build good working relationships at all levels – with young learners, line managers, wider business teams and Institute colleagues
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with people at all levels in the organization
  • Excellent administrative and organization skills with great attention to detail
  • Strong planning and project management skills, with the ability to effectively run simultaneous projects and successfully prioritize tasks
  • Ability to facilitate workshops with young adults, whether delivered virtually or in person
  • Proactive, motivated self-starter, with a ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to find a solution
  • Flexible team player but able to work under own initiative and manage own workload.
  • Resilient, comfortable with ambiguity and dynamic pace of work.
  • Great communicator – excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Word, Teams, Sharepoint, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
