The Map Section is part of the Bodleian’s Special Collections Department. Holdings consist of over 1.5 million maps, 20,000 atlases, and numerous cartographic datasets, making it one of the World’s ten largest map collections. The Maps team includes the Map Curator, Digital Map Curator, three library assistants, two volunteers, and a member of support staff based at our Swindon repository. The post holder will work as part of the Bodleian Maps team, and with staff and students across the University and beyond, in collection management and exploitation, reader services and user education for Maps, Cartography and Geographical Information Systems. The principal aspects of the post are three-fold: to lead and develop digital mapping provision within the Bodleian Libraries and the University of Oxford; to work closely with colleagues in Bodleian Digital Library Systems and Services to maintain and develop the Map Section’s online map content and website; and to contribute cartographic content and support to the MSc in Digital Scholarship.
This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week.
