Change your career, change lives

The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education.

Student Recruitment & Support Advisors are the first point of contact for students and enquirers seeking information about study at the OU.  We support the University in meeting student number targets by ensuring they have the information they need to make the right study choices for them, and are able to enrol and pay using their chosen method.  We work with colleagues across the University to support students and enquirers.

The role

The role involves significant telephone work (both inbound and outbound) as well as email, letter, webchat and other mediums as necessary.  You will need to be confident working with complex systems and information as we make use of multiple databases to maintain student, company and enquirer details. You will receive full training for the role from dedicated Trainers who will use high quality materials, followed by regular support, coaching and development from your Team Manager and established team members to build your confidence and knowledge within the role.

We currently have posts available at our Milton Keynes and Manchester offices. Once the initial training programme is complete, it is anticipated that candidates will be able to work in a hybrid style. This means that candidates should be able to work comfortably from home and their appointed OU office. Therefore, candidates will need to live within a reasonable commute to their OU office. Candidates will be supplied with a laptop in order to work flexibly.

What we offer to you

We have a strong commitment to providing training and development in and beyond your current role. This includes thorough induction into the organisation and regular reviews of your training and development needs.  This can include free study of our undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications.

We also offer a great range of benefits that support our employees and their families for the long term. Benefits include an attractive pension proposition and 30 days holiday per annum pro rata, plus Bank Holidays and three additional University closure days that are usually taken between Christmas and New Year.

What you will offer us

  • You are passionate about delivering an exceptional level of customer service.
  • Effective communication and IT skills that allow you to support our students with a range of enquiries.
  • You are a motivated self-starter who can adapt to the needs of an operation.
  • You thrive from working in a collaborative environment and being part of a highly experienced and supportive team.
  • You bring energy to your role on a daily basis and are always striving for excellence.
  • You are excited about the prospect of working for a highly respected organisation in which you will be able to make a difference to our students lives.
