THIS IS A RE-ADVERTISEMENT AND PREVIOUS APPLICANTS SHOULD NOT RE-APPLY

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Prof Penny Handford’s group working on Notch signalling in health and disease.  The project aims to investigate structure/function relationships in the Notch extracellular domain and determine how intra- and inter-molecular interactions may regulate receptor activity.  You will use biophysical studies and/or molecular and cell-based assays to probe the effects of structure-informed mutations on Notch activation.

Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a DPhil/PhD in Structural Biochemistry, Cell Biology or a related area, ideally with experience of working on mammalian proteins. You will be familiar predominantly with either the application of biophysical techniques such as SPR, mass spectrometry, NMR, crystallography or cell biology methods involving creation of stable, transient and/or CRISPR/Cas9-edited cell lines. In either case, experience of recombinant protein expression (prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems) and purification methods is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, as you will need to keep detailed laboratory records to meet publication standards, as well as give verbal updates on research progress.  You will be required to demonstrate considerable self-motivation, independence, competence and success in your thesis and/or postdoctoral work, and have the ability to work collaboratively and supportively in a laboratory environment, as well as contributing to supervision activities.

This full time fixed term post is funded by the MRC for up to 3 years in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU.

This position is graded on the University’s Grade 7 scale. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Tuesday 8th February 2022, with interviews for shortlisted candidates to be held as soon as possible thereafter.
