An exciting opportunity exists for a Safeguarding practitioner to join the Department of Post-Qualifying Healthcare Practice, within the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Birmingham City University.  The Department of Post-Qualifying Healthcare Practice is a thriving, innovative, and dynamic environment that aims to provide high-quality CPD for the health, social care, and public sector workforce.  

Joining an existing team of academics, you will contribute to the course leadership, taught delivery, assessment and support for students undertaking safeguarding modules/ PgCert/PgDip/MSc Safeguarding course.  

In collaboration with the Faculty team, the role will involve the following:

  • Course leadership for the PgCert/PgDip/MSc Safeguarding course.
  • Continuous course monitoring and curriculum review. 
  • Module leadership of safeguarding specific modules (PHE7018 Safeguarding: Contemporary Issues, PHE7019 Safeguarding Vulnerable People, PHE7020 Safeguarding: Law, Ethics and Professional Practice).
  • A contribution to blended taught delivery, assessment, and module leadership across the provision and other related pre and post-qualifying courses.
  • Engagement with experts by experience and external stakeholders.
  • Provision of academic and pastoral support to students undertaking the PgCert/PgDip/MSc Safeguarding course.
  • MSc Dissertation supervision.

The following are requirements for the role:

  • A professional qualification relevant to safeguarding is essential.
  • Experience of working in the safeguarding field is essential.
  • Educated to at least Masters level is essential.
  • A PgCert Education or equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • Doctorate-level education is desirable (or evidence of research-informed practice).
  • Experience as an academic or guest lecturer within Higher Education is desirable.
  • A good track record of supporting students to achieve their learning goals is desirable.
  • Strong IT skills, including the use of remote learning platforms and Microsoft Office is desirable.
  • Relevant knowledge and skills in developing inclusive learning cultures are desirable.
  • Experience in working effectively within a multi-agency team is essential.
