Location: Guildford
Salary: £42,149 to £50,296
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 13th January 2022
Closes: 2nd February 2022

The University of Surrey is an international University, with a world-class research profile and an enterprising spirit.  Inventive and forward-thinking, our heritage shows a recurring theme of doing things differently – and achieving notable results.   We won the 2017-2018 Queen’s Anniversary for our work in the area of Food & Nutrition for Health, and we have world-leading reputation for our teaching and research in nutrition and food science.

As part of the University, our Food Science and Nutrition Laboratories offers some of the best facilities in the world and we are now looking to appoint an ambitious and driven Teaching Fellow in Food Science to join our academic team within the Department of Nutritional Sciences.  The successful candidate will help enhance our reputation and grow our new Postgraduate MSc Programme in Food Science, which will have its first intake of students in September 2022 as well as contribute to the teaching of our successful Undergraduate Programme in Food Science & Nutrition.  To join our team, you will have a desire to enhance our strong teaching profile and to give our students an outstanding experience.

As a member of the Food Science Academic Team, you will be involved in a wide range of teaching and research activities which include (but are not limited to) coordinating Food Science Modules within our PG and UG programmes, overseeing student projects and provide pastoral care to students. You will also work in close collaboration with other members of the Department and across the Faculties at the University of Surrey.  This is a diverse and variable role, which requires the post holder to operate flexibly and react positively to changing circumstances and requirements, through demonstrating initiative and flexibility in the arrangement of their work priorities.

You will bring with you a strong track record in Food Science to include a degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Food Science) as well as a PhD.  We offer an energetic and forward-thinking working environment with access to a variety of staff development opportunities.  You will also receive a competitive salary and a generous annual leave entitlement, USS pension scheme and discounted membership to the Surrey Sports Park.  The University is easily accessible by road and rail and is a short distance from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. For an informal discussion about the position, please contact Dr Jonathan Brown, Programme Director and Head of Food Sciences Section, Department of Nutritional Sciences.

We acknowledge, understand and embrace diversity and the School of Biosciences and Medicine is proud to be the recipient of the Equality Challenge Unit Athena SWAN Silver award.

The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all.  We place great value on diversity and are seeking to increase the diversity within our community.  Therefore we particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities.
