Salary: £34,804 to £40,322 per annum
Hours: Full Time

The project is funded by the Leverhulme Trust and is part of a collaboration, with Imperial College, London and University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE) to develop novel self-sterilising surface coatings to combat bacterial infection.

The successful applicant will join the research group of Professor Boyle at University of Hull but will also work closely with a second research assistant appointed on the same project at The Department of Materials, Imperial College, London. All materials fabricated during the project will be tested for antimicrobial activity at UWE and the successful candidate will travel to Bristol to perform these assays under the supervision of our collaborator there.

The post will be based in the Chemistry Department. Chemistry currently has 34 research active academics, who conduct world-class research in fields from drug synthesis to advanced functional materials, and from imaging agents to miniaturised chemistry on lab-on-a-chip platforms.

The most recent national Research Excellence Framework found 87% of our outputs to be 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent'. Equipment available within the School include NMR at 400 and 500 MHz, including solid state and wide bore instruments, mass spectrometry with instruments for low and high resolution in EI, ESI and MALDI ionisation modes, Luminescence measurement kits, XRD for single crystal and powder diffraction and Mossbauer spectrometry.

There are also fully equipped mechanical and glass processing workshops within the Chemistry building that are available for support.

Candidates are requested to upload a CV and covering letter and complete the short online application form.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact Professor Ross Boyle, email: R.W.Boyle@hull.ac.uk.
