Located in one of the most beautiful regions of the UK, between the Snowdonia National Park and Anglesey, Bangor University has occupied a central role in the educational provision in North Wales since its foundation in 1884. With approximately 11,000 students and 2,000 staff, the university offers a wide range of academic provision grouped in three Colleges.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced academic with expertise in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning or related fields to join the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. The school is home to research centres of regional and national strategic importance, including the Digital Signal Processing centre and the Nuclear Futures Institute and plays a crucial role in pan-Wales initiatives in Artificial Intelligence such as Wales Data Nation Accelerator and the £5.4m AIMLAC Centre for Doctoral Training. The school is home to around 500 taught students, with in the region of 400 undergraduate students across programmes in Computer Science, Engineering and Product Design, and around half of the undergraduate population taking computer science-related programmes.

Computer science has been identified as one of the four strategic priority growth areas for the university and you will play a key role in progressing the university and school’s ambition to grow student numbers, change the way undergraduate students are educated, and grow and consolidate the research base in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.  You will add to the work of the experienced team exploring Computer Vision, Image Analysis, Human Visual Perception, Visual Computing, Immersive Analytics, Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. You will contribute to and build programmes and modules to support the expansion of the school’s teaching portfolio, drive the research agenda and lead the exploration of new foundational research areas.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate enthusiasm for working in a cross-disciplinary manner in fundamental and applied research and in the development of research-informed teaching to enhance employability of our graduates. You will have the opportunity to expand your industry connections through our existing networks and identify and develop new relationships as part of our impact strategy. Areas of desirable expertise include, but are not limited to, machine learning with applications to health and wellbeing, machine learning theoretical foundations, machine learning applied to the natural world, machine learning for sustainability, deep learning systems, adversarial machine learning, generative models in machine learning, distributed machine learning and federated learning.
