The University of Law (ULaw) is one of the world's largest law schools. With an impressive history dating back to 1876, we employ over 1,000 staff and have over 16,000 students studying on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, along with an alumni network exceeding 100,000. In 2016, we opened our leading Business School, further enhancing our reputation as a full service legal, business and educational training specialist, operating from campuses throughout the UK, Berlin and Hong Kong and an Online campus.

We now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Counsellor to support the Counselling Service Manager to develop, manage, co-ordinate and deliver counselling services across the University.  As well as managing a caseload, the successful candidate will act as Deputy to the Counselling Service Manager as and when required.  With a national remit, you will provide advice, guidance and training to all University staff to support students while working collaboratively as a member of Student Support Services.

You will support the promotion, awareness raising and representation of the Service in matters relating to counselling and mental wellbeing within the University and externally as well as contributing to policy and practice development.

The successful candidate will have a recognised post graduate diploma in counselling or psychotherapy, and be an accredited practitioner with the BACP, BAP or UKCP with a record of continuous professional development.  Additionally, you will have experience of offering counselling in a higher education setting, with a thorough knowledge of relevant codes of practice as well as experience of short-term counselling contracts.  You will have experience of identifying and responding to safeguarding issues, managing a clinical caseload and working therapeutically with at-risk clients.  We are seeking a practitioner able to draw upon and influence best practice aided by your understanding of the concerns that students in higher education and professional training may have.

We offer an inclusive and supportive work environment and are committed to developing our staff through a variety of means including educational sponsorship, discounted course fees and a range of in-house training.

Please note, CVs will not be considered and only application forms are accepted for this role.

Diversity and Inclusion is central to everything we do. We are actively committed to promoting and participating in good practice in the way we attract and retain staff, as we appreciate the value and benefits of a truly diverse workforce. Aligned to this is the opportunity to join one of our three self-organised staff networks for Black, Asian and Minority staff, Disabled staff and LGBTQ+ staff.

We celebrate difference and recognise the benefits that this brings to our inclusive culture, including age, disability, gender identity and expression, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation and socio-economic background. The University is committed to ensuring our workforce is reflective of our diverse student population and, therefore, we are striving to increase the representation of Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds across all roles and at all levels. All appointments will be made on merit.
