Background and Role

The Invisible East programme at the University of Oxford is currently looking for a Fundraiser to support their thriving, high performing team! This is an exciting role and the perfect step into a 3-month campaign in the charity and academic sector. If you want to work on behalf of a charitable research programme doing something meaningful with excellent rewards and career advancement, then the Invisible East Fundraiser may be your ideal job.

As the Invisible East Fundraiser, you will be on the programme’s frontline, communicating with people in a wide range of premium venues and across many job sectors, including telecommunications, social media, and IT, cultural heritage, and art. You will be proactive, enthusiastic, and outgoing. You must have a confident demeanour, excellent communication skills, have a positive attitude and a passion to make a real difference.

About the Team

Oxford University’s Invisible East programme is the first single, coherent research programme dedicated to the study of the Islamicate East, that is a large Eurasian region stretching from Iran to China, which includes some of the oldest civilisations in the world.

The programme is based at the world-renowned Oriental Institute at the University of Oxford, and is led by its director, Dr Arezou Azad. The team includes five researchers and an administrator. Invisible East makes texts and research accessible to the broadest possible audience through a website,  social media engagement, online seminars, conferences, and scholarly publications. 

Key Information

  • Salary up to £30 p/h dependent on experience
  • Starting with 2 hours per week with a view to increase

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage a list of potential donors, and contact them with letters, calls and meetings
  • Prepare funding applications to institutional donors (European Research Council, Arts and Humanities Research Council etc)
  • Secure major funding for long-term programme 

Desired skills and competencies:

  • Previous successful experience of raising funds from private funders (charitable or commercial) is required
  • Excellent communicator with confidence and passion
  • Be driven and demonstrate a positive mentality
  • Caring and compassionate
  • Results focused and able to deliver targets
