(Applications from suitably qualified candidates to work on a part-time basis will be considered).

The University of Surrey has an exciting opportunity for a health economist with substantive experience in applying an economic perspective to issues in the health and social care arena.  We wish to recruit a dynamic forward-thinking team player with a ‘can do’ attitude to join the Surrey Health Economics Centre (SHEC).

The Centre undertakes collaborative interdisciplinary research in applied health economics and health service delivery. It has strong relationships with a large number of academic, NHS and private sector partners across the UK and internationally and has attracted multiple research grants for evaluative studies from NIHR, European, charity and industry funders.  Members of SHEC work closely with other researchers in the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Surrey Clinical Trials Unit, the School of Veterinary Medicine (on a global One Health One Medicine agenda), and the wider University. SHEC leads the health and social care economics for the NIHR Research Design Service (RDS)  and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. It has an established reputation of publishing in leading health-related journals.

This post provides the opportunity for a suitably experienced candidate to contribute significantly to the strategic development and management of SHEC. The successful candidate will be expected to attract substantial external funding to support research activity and have an outstanding track record of achievement in scholarship and research.   The person appointed will contribute, where appropriate, to existing SHEC research activities, including the RDS and ARC. SHEC actively encourages and supports postgraduate research students in health economics or health services as part of an MPhil/PhD or MD programme.

Besides a vibrant and forward-thinking working environment on a leafy campus close to London, we offer leisure facilities and access to a variety of academic and professional development opportunities to help you fulfil your potential.

This post is funded until 31 December 2024 in the first instance.

For an informal discussion or further details, please contact Professor Heather Gage, Professor of Health Economics (h.gage@surrey.ac.uk) or Professor Simon Skene, Director of Surrey Clinical Trials Unit (s.skene@surrey.ac.uk).

We acknowledge, understand and embrace diversity and the School of Biosciences and Medicine is proud to be the recipient of the Equality Challenge Unit Athena SWAN Silver award.
