Background Information
This position will work be seconded to Betsi Cadwalladr Health Board. Day to day reporting will be to a designated line manager at the Health Board with support from AgorIP.
This is an opportunity for someone with existing technology transfer, commercialisation, knowledge transfer, innovation management, business engagement or similar experience to develop their career further.
The AgorIP (Open IP) project provides and Intellectual Property Management and Technology Transfer service to academia, University Health Boards, SMEs and industrial collaborators, servicing a pipeline of Intellectual Property opportunities at various levels of Technology Readiness Levels.
AgorIP, which is partially funded by the Welsh Government and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), is now pan-Wales; running in parallel across the West Wales & the Valleys and East Wales Regions, increasing the scope and impact of the project and building on lessons learned. AgorIP is led and managed by the School of Management within the established governance of Swansea University and in accordance with University IP Governance Procedures and Policies, which are led by the University’s Department of Research, Engagement and Innovation Services (REIS).
This role, funded by the West Wales and the Valleys Operation, will work specifically within Betsi Cadwalladr Health Board to deliver indicators (outputs) and build technology transfer capacity in Wales. You will need to be a motivated and ambitious self-starter. The position offers the opportunity for developing your existing skills and we also provide the opportunity for training for example on PraxisAuril courses (https://www.praxisauril.org.uk/training) to help you towards Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) accreditation.
Main Purpose of the Post
The TTM will manage AgorIP technology transfer activities relating to commercial opportunities at Technology Readiness level 4 and above, primarily at Betsi Cadwalladr Health Board, using appropriate vehicles for commercialisation.
Embedded within the Health Board, the TTM will work on a variety of Technology Transfer projects that deliver indictors (outputs) for the project. The TTM will identify commercialisation opportunities, then conduct due diligence in order to secure funding thorough AgorIP (e.g. patent costs, procuring commercial mentors, design services etc.). They will work closely with colleagues at Swansea University to bring projects to the AgorIP Evaluation Panel to secure resources to move inventions towards commercialisation, (e.g. licencing or creation of a spin-out company). They will take responsibility for their portfolio of projects, ensuring that project funders’ rules are followed and that projects are actively managed, and indicators recorded.
