We have a great opportunity based at our National Centre for Motorsport Engineering at the University of Bolton for a Technician / Demonstrator in Composite Manufacturing.

As a Technician / Demonstrator in Composite Manufacturing, you will play a pivotal role in the success of our students through:

  • To act as a support for student learning, teaching and research across the portfolio of academic disciplines including support for students’ projects and self-directed study in Motorsport Engineering.
  • To provide a demonstrator/technical support service which meets the needs of academic staff and students, and enables optimum use of University resources. The role includes support and demonstration of a range of equipment and associated processes and first line maintenance.
  • Assist the teaching team in demonstrating experiments and making/assembling of composite parts & assemblies with students, staff, manufacturing companies, schools and colleges.

A key aspect will be the ability to manage a student motorsport racing car build including multiple composite structures and supporting aerospace students understand the manufacturing process in aerospace production.

Our ideal candidates will have experience of working in the automotive, aerospace or motorsport industry and be experienced in a variety of manufacturing methods such as resin infusion, resin transfer molding and composite tooling manufacturing alongside the layup and cure of pre-preg materials.

Degree and postgraduate qualifications are relevant but industrial experience and an interest to further study at the university alongside your role is acceptable.

Other core skills are:

  • A proven ability to innovate and develop solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion and motivation by your specialist area.
  • Proven ability to prepare high quality outputs.
  • Previous experience of teaching, research and academia is an advantage but not essential as full training will be provided.
